if you don’t love Autochthon SOMETHING IS HORRIDLY WRONG BEACUSE HE IS BEST AND PERF SWEETIE AND ALCHEMICALS ARE MEGA PERF OKAY
Maybe they don’t like him because he’s boring? Good can become boring after a long while. Sometimes you want something evil, or at least chaotic
See, here’s a thing: There is no shortage of ‘evil’, ‘chaotic’ forces in Creation (the Yozis, the Deathlords, the Raksha, the more assholish Exalts, the more assholish gods and spirits, take your pick really). The amount of anti-human forces is staggering, and if it wasn’t a game where you can kick them all in the nuts and win, Creation would be more grimdark than WH40K. Chaotic Evil Forces IMO are boring, especially if their concentration is too big in the single setting. On the other hand, most of the ‘good’ forces are either MIA (Gaia) or addicted to Transcendant PlayStation (the Incarnae). Therefore, Autochthon is about the only explicitly prohuman force Creation has.
How in the love of the Shinma can you call an overbeing that’s basically magitech world-cyborg with the personality of a benevolent mad scientist and legions of magic robot people boring? Our definitions of boring must be quite different, really.
tl;dr: we don’t need more threats to humanity in Exalted, and also Autochthon is awesome.
I’d also make the argument that Autochthon only really likes humanity because we use his favourite creations (tools, faith and dogma) and is quite probably the most likely of the big ‘good’ forces to cease being ‘good’ at a moment’s notice, even without turning into the Engine of Extinction.
If you think Auto-kun didn’t commit mass murder when he needed starmetal and soulsteel before his retreat from Creation, I’d just like to remind you that one of his Third Circle exmachina is the Viator, and that Auto is a Primordial - with all the alien thought process and difficulty in processing the importance of creatures on a smaller scale that implies. The Void might be trying to overtake Auto, but it still informs a significant part of what he is.
Also, Auto didn’t help the Incarnae and build the Exaltations to help humanity, but to get back at siblings for breaking his stuff.
I’d argue that calling Auto “pro-human” is a dangerous miscalculation.
